BASF will build a pentaerythritol plant at its integrated facility in Zhanjiang!

On October 11, BASF announced its plan to invest in the construction of a world-scale neopentyl glycol plant at its integrated site in Zhanjiang, China, with an annual production capacity of 80,000 tons. The new facility is expected to come online in the fourth quarter of 2025, at which time BASF’s global annual production capacity for neopentyl glycol will increase from 255,000 tons to 335,000 tons. Currently, BASF has pentaerythritol production facilities in Ludwigshafen, Germany, Freeport, Texas, USA, as well as in Nanjing and Jilin, China. Neopentyl glycol is an intermediate with high chemical and thermal stability, primarily used in the production of powder coating resins. “Investing in a neopentyl glycol plant at the Zhanjiang integrated base will enable us to meet the growing demands of Asian customers, particularly in the powder coatings sector in China. ”Hua Siliang, Senior Vice President of BASF’s Intermediates Business in Asia-Pacific, said that by leveraging BASF’s unique integrated model to create synergies and combining it with cutting-edge technologies, this investment will enhance competitive advantages in China, the world’s largest chemical market.
