【Haichuan’s Lessons from Others】Making Full Use of Gas Resources – Jinan Refining & Chemical’s First Internal Combustion Generator Set Successfully Connected to the Power Grid

Recently, the first internal combustion generator set at Jinan Refining & Chemical Plant was successfully connected to the power grid for operation, with all operational parameters meeting the design requirements. This will significantly improve the utilization efficiency of gas heat and help reduce energy consumption. The second diesel generator set is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in March 2026. Once the project is fully operational, it is expected to generate an additional 12.5 million kWh of electricity per year, significantly reducing the cost of purchasing electricity from external sources. To address the challenges related to steam and gas balance and to fully exploit the potential of gas resources for power generation, Jinan Refining & Chemical Co., together with the Energy Saving Company of United Refining & Chemical Engineering Group, has carried out technical research. By using hydrogen-enriched gas as fuel and adopting a combined cycle power generation technology that combines an internal combustion engine, a boiler, and a steam turbine generator set, efforts are being made to advance the construction of projects aimed at making more efficient use of thermal, electrical, and gas energy. The project plans to add 2 more diesel generator sets, utilizing a cascaded energy utilization approach to ensure that all gas resources are fully utilized.
