In terms of production capacity, several sub-industries in Jiangsu Province hold an important position nationwide. Among them, its refining capacity ranks fourth among all provinces and cities in the country, accounting for 4.9%, while its share of crude oil processing volume nationwide is 6.5% ; Ethylene production capacity accounts for 8.8% of the national total, ranking fourth ; China leads the world in acetic acid production, accounting for around 38% of the country’s total production capacity; other organic raw materials such as bisphenol A, acrylonitrile, and propylene oxide also hold a significant share in domestic production. The polystyrene industry enjoys significant scale and clustering advantages; GPPS/HIPS production capacity accounts for 48% of the country’s total capacity, ranking first in the nation ; China has the highest production capacity in the field of engineering plastics, including polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polyphenylene ether (PPE), and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) ; The total output value of fluorine chemical manufacturing enterprises in Jiangsu Province accounts for about 16% of the national total output value for fluorine chemicals ; In Jiangsu Province’s fine chemical industry, the production capacity for traditional fine chemicals is among the highest in the country; it holds a strong advantage in areas such as pesticides and intermediates, coatings, additives for synthetic materials, multifunctional intermediates, dyes and pigments and their intermediates, as well as oleochemicals. In the field of new types of fine chemicals, Jiangsu leads the nation in electronic chemicals, with certain products such as electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide, N-methylformamide, and lithium hexafluorophosphate being the best in the country. In accordance with the Jiangsu Province’s 14th Five-Year Plan for the high-end development of the chemical industry, the province will establish a \"1+N\" industrial structure for chemicals, with the Lianyungang petrochemical industry base and 28 chemical parks (clustered areas) as its core components. The industrial layout is generally divided into three main areas: the industries along rivers/lakes, the coastal industries, and the industries in northern Jiangsu. Industrial zones along rivers/lakes, including the 8 cities of Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Taizhou, and Nantong (part of it), have currently 9 chemical industrial parks and 8 concentrated chemical areas ; The coastal industrial zones include the three cities of Lianyungang, Yancheng, and Nantong (part of it), and currently feature 5 chemical industrial parks and 3 areas with concentrated chemical industries ; The northern Jiangsu region includes the three cities of Xuzhou, Huai’an, and Suqian, and currently has 4 chemical industry clusters. Among them, the Lianyungang Petrochemical Industry Base is one of the newly established petrochemical industry bases that are part of China’s key planning initiatives. It has become an important site for the new round of adjustments to the petrochemical industry’s layout as well as for its structural optimization and upgrading. In terms of the industrial chain layout, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Jiangsu Province’s petrochemical industry will be primarily developed in this area, with major projects such as those operated by Shenghong and Satellite Chemical. Upstream industries such as petrochemicals, organic raw materials, and synthetic materials continue to develop further based on their existing industrial foundations, utilizing the parks where large petrochemical enterprises are located; examples include Lianyungang, Nanjing, Yangzhou, and Taizhou ; There are many chemical parks (or concentrated areas) whose industrial chains are driven by new chemical materials and high-end fine chemicals, and these are mainly located along the Yangtze River (within a 1-kilometer radius), with Suzhou, Wuxi, and Nantong being particularly concentrated in this area ; The coal chemical and salt chemical industries will continue to develop in areas with advantages, such as Xuzhou and Huai’an.
