On the afternoon of November 22, under the guidance of organizations such as the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission and the Shanghai State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the National Key Laboratory of Polyolefin Catalysis Technology and High-performance Materials, which is based at the Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, held the first meeting of its First Academic Committee. 17 experts, including Academicians Yuan Qingtang, Ding Kuiling, Lin Guoqiang, Yan Deyue, and Zhu Meifang from the Laboratory’s Academic Committee, attended the meeting. Gu Lili, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of Huayi Group, and Senior Advisor to the Laboratory Management Committee, and Zhong Dongting, Director of the Laboratory Department of the Municipal Science and Technology Commission, delivered speeches on behalf of the sponsoring entity and the competent authority respectively. Ding Kuiling, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Senior Advisor to the Laboratory Management Committee, and Gu Lili jointly presented appointment letters to the experts of the Academic Committee. Zhu Xinyuan, a distinguished professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and president of Shanghai University of Science and Technology; Dai Xue, deputy director of the Planning and Innovation Department of the Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission; Li Wenbo, director of the Putuo District Science and Technology Commission; Li Liangjun, deputy secretary of the Party committee and vice president of the group; and Chu Xiaodong, secretary of the Party committee and chairman of the research institute, were among those who attended the meeting. More than 50 people attended the meeting, including responsible officials from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the group, and the research institute, as well as key researchers from the laboratories. The first meeting of the Academic Committee was chaired by Academician Yuan Qingtang, the chairperson of the committee, while the ceremony for appointing the committee members was presided over by Shang Zhaocong, the deputy secretary of the Party committee, general manager, and president of the Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry. At the meeting, Laboratory Director Cao Yucai presented an annual work report to the Academic Committee on the progress of the laboratory’s development, covering aspects such as the background and significance, requirements for construction, measures taken, achievements achieved, and key tasks. It is reported that the laboratory is guided by the need to address **major challenges. Focusing on four key research areas – the multi-scale structure of polyolefins and innovative molecular regulation mechanisms, catalysis for the controlled polymerization of olefins and the development of key catalyst products, advanced processes and manufacturing techniques for enhancing the performance of polyolefins, and the creation of functionally advanced polyolefin materials – it aims to become a leading hub for cutting-edge polyolefin material technologies in China and at the international level. This will provide scientific and technological support for ensuring the autonomy, security, and reliability of China’s high-end polyolefin industry chain and supply chain. During the academic presentation session, Du Lijun, General Manager of the Technology Development Department at Huayi Group, delivered an invited speech on the \"Development Plan for High-End Polyolefin Materials\". Li Yongqing, a key researcher in the laboratory, and Su Yuanhai, a professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, gave presentations on the topics of \"Remote Perturbation Control in the Production of High-Performance Polyolefins\" and \"Multi-Field Coupling to Enhance the Continuous Flow Synthesis of High-End Chemicals\", respectively. The academicians and experts present conducted thorough discussions on the laboratory’s strategic orientation, research directions, task assignments, and future plans. They highly praised the laboratory for achieving results while it was still under construction, and provided guidance for its further development and operation. They urged the laboratory to focus more on **major needs, to combine theory with practice, science with engineering, and fundamentals with applications. Through the deep integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation, it should advance next-generation catalyst technologies from scientific breakthroughs to industrial applications, ensuring that scientific achievements are continuously transformed into new forms of productive capacity. The goal is to establish a nationally renowned, cutting-edge laboratory that ranks among the best in China and at the international level, thereby contributing to the high-quality development of China’s polyolefin materials industry.
