Syria plans to build a refinery with a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day

　According to Sinochem News, on November 29, Syria’s Energy Minister confirmed to the government-owned television station Al-Ahbariya that the country plans to build a new refinery with a processing capacity of 150,000 barrels per day. 　　The television station reported that due to the aging of some facilities, the current daily processing capacity of Syria’s main refinery, the Baniyas Refinery, has dropped to 95,000 barrels per day; it also estimated that Syria’s total national oil production capacity is around 130,000 barrels per day. 　　In 2010, Syria’s daily oil exports reached 380,000 barrels. However, during the civil war, Syria’s economy and infrastructure, especially its oil production system, suffered devastating damage. Following the collapse of the Assad regime in December 2024, the new government that took power promised to make every effort to revive Syria’s economy, and the construction of new oil refineries is an important part of this recovery plan.
