On March 16, the last piece of equipment for the ethylene plant at Sinopec Qiyun Company’s CNOOC Shell Huizhou project – the off-gas distillation tower – was accurately installed in place. With this, the lifting of the large-scale equipment for the ethylene plant at the CNOOC Shell Huizhou project has been successfully completed, marking another milestone achievement in the project’s development. As a key project for the upgrading of the petrochemical industry, CNOOC Shell Huizhou Phase III Ethylene Project will, upon completion, become one of the largest ethylene production facilities in the world. The project utilizes Shell’s proprietary and internationally leading process technologies, with the LAO/ID/SHF/PAO technology being used for the first time in Asia. Upon completion, CNOOC Shell’s ethylene production capacity will reach 3.8 million tons per year, making it one of the largest ethylene production bases in the country. The total investment in the project is approximately 48 billion yuan. With an ethylene cracking unit with a capacity of 1.6 million tons per year as the core, 16 chemical processing units, utility systems, and supporting facilities will be constructed. The main construction components include an ethylene plant with a capacity of 1.6 million tons per year, along with a total of 16 downstream chemical processing units. These include: an ethylene cracking unit with a capacity of 1.6 million tons per year, a butadiene extraction unit with a capacity of 305,000 tons per year, a cracked gasoline hydrogenation unit with a capacity of 1.46 million tons per year, an aromatic extraction unit with a capacity of 1.1 million tons per year, an ethylene oxide-ethylene glycol (EO-EG) production unit with a capacity of 645,000 tons per year (including a unit for producing high-purity ethylene oxide with a capacity of 190,000 tons per year), a metallocene linear low-density polyethylene (mLLDPE) production unit with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year, a polypropylene (PP) production unit with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year, a linear α-olefin (LAO) production unit with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year, an isomerization and disproportionation (ID) unit with a capacity of 130,000 tons per year, a Shell hydroformylation (SHF) unit with a capacity of 130,000 tons per year, a polyα-olefin (PAO) production unit with a capacity of 50,000 tons per year, an ethylbenzene (EB) production unit with a capacity of 1 million tons per year, a styrene-propylene oxide (SM-PO) production unit with capacities of 875,000/400,000 tons per year respectively, a polyether polyol (DMC-POD) production unit with a capacity of 450,000 tons per year, a polymer polyol (POP-POD) production unit with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year, and an MTBE/butene-1 production unit with capacities of 270,000/80,000 tons per year.
