On April 29, the 200,000-ton/year isononyl alcohol production unit in the second phase of the Zhenhai facility successfully produced qualified isononyl alcohol products, with a purity of over 99.5%. This marked a successful first trial run of the unit, which is now the largest isononyl alcohol production facility in China. Isononyl alcohol is a key raw material for high-performance eco-friendly plasticizers, and it is primarily used in the production of high-end plasticizers such as diisononyl phthalate (DINP) and diisononyl cyclohexanemethane phthalate (DINCH). Compared to traditional octyl-based plasticizers, products made from isononyl alcohol exhibit better environmental and safety properties. They are widely used in PVC products such as automotive interiors, building materials, and wires and cables. The successful operation of this facility will help fill the gap in domestic production capacity for high-end, high-carbon plasticizer alcohols, and it plays an important role in enhancing the competitiveness of China’s C4 industry chain as well as in promoting a greener and higher-quality structure for chemical products. After the mechanical construction of the facility was completed in January 2026, it entered the trial operation phase. During this period, the team in charge of the facility coordinated efforts among various specialists to carry out key steps such as gas purging, catalyst treatment, establishing a system for introducing raw materials, and testing intermediate products.
