In production, due to poor management of process technologies, incidents occur from time to time in which the service life or effective operating time of equipment is reduced, or the equipment gets damaged. However, management often blames inadequate equipment management for these issues. As shown in the figure below, poor quality of steam leads to blockages in the turbine channels, preventing the turbine from functioning properly. Please share any instances at your sites where poor process management resulted in equipment damage, so that we can learn from them.

I’ve encountered this situation too: the client said they wanted a pump for using in dilute sulfuric acid. I thought that since dilute sulfuric acid has a low density, there was no need for a motor with extra power. But when I delivered two pumps, they ended up using them to transport 98% concentrated sulfuric acid. It heats up as soon as the motor is turned on. So, no matter how good the equipment is, if it’s not suitable, it’s of no use.
Equipment management involves the responsibility of monitoring steam quality to ensure that it meets the requirements for the operation of your equipment! Of course, process management is also responsible!
