Dear experts, I have a question regarding turbine condensate drainage: Is it necessary to drain condensate during the operation of all types of turbines, or is it only required for certain types? If condensate drainage is needed, is it done automatically by the equipment or manually? Does it need to be done continuously during operation, or only after a certain period of time? Thank you
In the case of steam turbines, a dehydrating package is usually installed before the turbine inlet; a drain valve is typically placed at the bottom of this dehydrating package, and it suffices to keep this drain valve in the open position to allow condensate to flow out.
What the expert means is that, whether it’s the gas-condensation method or the back-pressure method, gas discharge occurs continuously, right?
After completing work, the steam in a condensing turbine enters the condenser where it is completely condensed into water and then discharged. In contrast, a backpressure turbine has a high exhaust pressure, and after completing its work it can still be used for secondary purposes such as heating; therefore, it does not require a condenser and no liquid needs to be discharged.
