How should the settle-out pressure of a centrifugal compressor be determined, and what is the difference between it and shutdown? What is the function of the booster in a sealing system? When is it needed?
When the compressor is started, the outlet pressure is equal to the inlet pressure. However, the sealing gas introduced at the outlet must be at a higher pressure than that in the sealing chamber; therefore, a pressure booster pump is needed to increase the pressure. Of course, it is also possible to use nitrogen at a pressure higher than the inlet pressure, without needing a pressure booster pump. Wait until the outlet pressure exceeds the inlet pressure after the unit is started, then switch to process gas. It’s just a bit troublesome.
