Is the diameter of the wire relevant to the material of the shaft bearing being tested when selecting it?
It has nothing to do with the material of the bearing bush; it depends only on the clearance above the bearing bush. The diameter of the wire is generally chosen to be 1.25–1.5 times the clearance, which means that the degree of compression of the wire is between 1/5 and 1/3 of its total diameter. If the wire is too thick or too thin, the accuracy of the compression measurement will also increase.
It has nothing to do with the material; it’s related to the gap measurement – it can’t be too thick or too thin
