TPM, or Total Productive Maintenance, means that all personnel involved – maintenance workers, operators, managers, supervisors, and employees – take part in the maintenance of equipment. The goal pursued by TPM is “zero” failures. We say that this is a philosophy: it’s impossible for CNC machines not to experience failures. But with this philosophy and this goal, by making efforts and striving hard, the failure rate of CNC machines can be reduced to the lowest level, allowing them to remain in optimal condition. 　　We say that maintenance and technical upgrades of CNC machines, as well as proper care for them, standardized operation, and scientific management of such machines – all of these serve one purpose: to increase the utilization rate of CNC machines so that they can play their proper role in production and business operations. 　　Over the years, we have established a daily inspection system for key CNC equipment as well as a patrol system for CNC machines. The inspection tasks for key CNC machines are mainly divided into three categories: the tasks that operators, mechanical maintenance personnel, and electrical maintenance personnel should carry out respectively, with each party being responsible for their own inspection duties. This approach helps to identify faults in CNC machines early and eliminate potential problems before they arise, thereby preventing possible or imminent failures at an early stage. The inspection of CNC machines requires that a dedicated person be sent to the site on a daily basis; these inspectors must be mechanical and electrical maintenance technicians, and they should work in shifts so as to keep track of how the CNC machines are being used, how the operators handle them and maintain them, and to identify any instances of improper operation. Any issues that arise should be reported and addressed promptly, and those who violate the rules must be dealt with in strict accordance with the factory’s regulations. 　　Visual management of CNC machines is an important aspect of TPM, total productive maintenance. We are currently implementing this approach step by step, starting with the most important and critical CNC equipment. The goal is to enable our maintenance staff, operators, and managers to directly understand the usage status of the machines and the condition of the equipment through visual inspection. 　　Whether it is the inspection of key CNC equipment, the routine checking of such equipment, or its visual management, all these are essentially human-driven approaches to condition-based maintenance of CNC equipment. When these approaches are combined with various detection techniques and methods, condition-based maintenance becomes more systematic and rational. Together with TPM, which emphasizes maintenance involving all employees, the maintenance management of CNC machines becomes even more scientific and inclusive.
