Classification of sliding bearings

How are the sliding bearings of turbines classified exactly? For example, how are tilting pad bearings, elliptical pad bearings, and circular pad bearings distinguished from one another?

Radial bearing shells are classified as follows: 1. Cylindrical bearing shells, 2. Elliptical bearing shells, 3. Three-oil- wedge bearing shells, 4. Tilting bearing shells. The radial bearings of a machine set are generally tilting bearings, with the inner bearing elements being able to slide. The other three types are commonly found in multi-stage pumps and pumps with dual supports. A machine set also has bearings designed to prevent axial movement, known as thrust bearings; these are divided into primary thrust bearings and secondary thrust bearings, which are installed on either side of the thrust disc. Internationally, there are two types of thrust bearings: Kingsbury bearings and Mitchell bearings, with Kingsbury bearings being more commonly used in machine sets. In the diagram, those equipped with instruments are radial bearings, while those marked with “4” are secondary thrust bearings; the primary thrust bearing and the thrust disc have been removed
