If the cooling of the condensing turbine’s reheat water with seawater is interrupted, it is possible to switch to on-site venting (without considering the high exhaust pressure interlock) in order to keep the equipment running. The main concern is that switching to steam-based on-site venting will cause the temperature at the last stage to rise; however, it is not clear whether this temperature will remain within acceptable limits. There are also other adverse effects, and I would like to seek the expertise of experts here regarding the feasibility of this approach.
If the cooling seawater supply is interrupted and replaced by on-site venting, there will be insufficient cooling in the condenser, preventing the steam from condensing effectively and thus leading to an increase in pressure and temperature. In this case, the final stage blades and other equipment may be damaged due to high temperature and pressure, increasing safety risks. It is generally not recommended to continue operating; the machine should be shut down immediately for maintenance. .
