I have a question: in chemical production, some large-scale equipment such as turbines and compressors require nitrogen sealing. If the pressure of nitrogen supply is low at certain times, what effects might that have on these turbines and compressors? Those who know, please let me know. Thank you
The use of gas pressure to adjust dynamic/static seals is very common, with dry air being typically used. However, for those media that are prone to chemical reactions, inert gases (dry nitrogen) such as those from oxygen compressors must be used. If there is an ample supply of dry nitrogen gas, it is ideal to use it for nitrogen sealing. The so-called nitrogen/air sealing principle involves creating a gas chamber on one side of the dynamic sealing point to form a pressure zone that prevents gas from leaking out, and then allowing a mixture with a certain pressure to be released into the atmosphere. It is recommended to create a schematic diagram of the mechanical plane to understand the principle. As for the requirement that the gas source pressure remain stable, buffer tanks and pressure control valves are typically used to stabilize the gas source pressure in order to avoid fluctuations in it. If the gas source pressure truly drops, there should be emergency procedures that specify corresponding actions, with more advanced systems requiring interlocked responses. It mainly depends on the requirements of the equipment; it is advisable to consult the user manual for that specific device as a reference.

I’m not quite sure. The two scenarios I’m aware of are as follows: 1. For the storage of spare parts, they are usually kept in nitrogen-filled containers, with a slight positive pressure maintained. Such containers are equipped with flow meters and pressure gauges to ensure continuous supply of nitrogen and to monitor pressure levels. 2. When the unit is not in use for an extended period, it too needs to be protected by nitrogen, again under a slight positive pressure.
