Regarding the material selection for octagonal pads

For high-pressure equipment, the flange sealing surface adopts the RJ format, with octagonal gaskets used. The question is: the flange material (sealing surface) is 16Mn forgings. If the diameter of the octagonal gasket is large, forgings are used; considering that the hardness of the octagonal gasket material should be lower than that of the flange sealing surface, which is in the range of HBW30–HBW40, I believe it is possible to use 20-grade forgings, with requirements specified for the hardness of these forgings after heat treatment. Have fellow sailors encountered this before? How should one choose gaskets? Has anyone chosen stainless steel octagonal pads? Thank you.

Generally, grade 10 steel can be chosen; grade 20 forgings can meet the requirements through heat treatment
The hardness just needs to meet the requirements; what’s important is the machining precision and surface roughness of the octagonal pad
Thank you. I happened to see today drawings designed by a well-known design firm that matched my description, and they used stainless steel gaskets.
The octagonal pads are made of carbon steel, and spare parts stored in the warehouse rust easily
