I. 15Mo3 is a European standard container steel plate, belonging to the pearlitic heat-resistant steel category – a type of steel that retains its properties even at high temperatures under prolonged loading conditions. Heating surfaces used in low and medium pressure boilers (with operating pressures generally not exceeding 5.88 Mpa and operating temperatures below 450°C) ; II. Uses of 15Mo3: (cut to size from stock + bundled by steel mills) It is used for heat-exchanging tubes, economizers, superheaters, reheaters, etc., in high-pressure boilers (with a working pressure generally above 9.8 Mpa and a working temperature between 450°C and 650°C). III. Welding methods for 15Mo3: 15Mo3 can be welded using shielded metal arc welding and tungsten inert gas welding. Based on the chemical composition of 15Mo3 and its operating conditions, the R107 electrode, which offers high impact toughness and elongation as well as good crack resistance, is selected to ensure that the performance requirements of 15Mo3 steel are met. TIG R10 wire is used for welding; according to the results of process tests, it meets the requirements for welding and use. The microstructure of 15Mo3 is pearlite + ferrite. Using the American Welding Society’s carbon equivalent formula CE(IIW) = C + Mn/6 + (Cr + Mo + V)/5 + (Ni + Cu)/15, the carbon equivalent of 15Mo3 is found to be less than 0.4%, indicating that it has a low tendency to become brittle and hard, and thus possesses good weldability.
