As the title suggests, the welding procedure assessment for butt weld specimens is applicable to fillet welds. If the key factors of the butt weld remain unchanged while additional factors change, then is the welding assessment for that butt weld still applicable to fillet welds?
The added factor has no effect on the toughness of fillet welds, making it suitable for fillet welds.
It depends on whether the design documents of the container in which that fillet weld is located, or the manufacturing and material standards, require impact testing. If an impact test is required, the weld assessment for the butt weld must include an impact test, and the important factors and additional factors related to the actual welding of the fillet welds must fall within the scope of the weld assessment for the butt weld.
