If the calculated area is negative, should its absolute value be used in subsequent calculations?
The calculated area is negative, indicating that the cross-sectional area of this structure does not meet the requirements; it is necessary to increase the metal cross-sectional area of the structure before further calculations can be carried out. Taking the absolute value of a negative area is useless.
But what is calculated is the area that needs to withstand pressure; so if it’s a negative value, wouldn’t that mean no reinforcement is needed?
