Our company commissioned a head manufacturing factory to produce 6 composite plate heads, of which 2 developed cracks in the welds and heat-affected zones; one of these was repaired by welding and has since been completed. However, another attempt at welding was unsuccessful after two attempts; the crack appeared again, with a length of 2 meters. I earnestly ask the experienced experts at Haichuan for their valuable advice – is it still worthwhile to try welding this end cap? Please feel free to share everything you know! Image attached:

A thickness of 2+12 – it really doesn’t need to be this bad; this is only a slight degree of deformation. The more it’s repaired, the worse it gets; just scrap it. There is a problem with the weld quality.
End caps are used on the tops of vessels at atmospheric pressure; there are no major issues regarding their strength or corrosion resistance. The key problem now is whether there is a good welding technique for repair that can prevent cracks from spreading further.
With your repairs, cross welds have appeared. The middle piece can be removed. Create a circular composite panel again. Or keep them on both sides and make a new composite panel in the middle.
Communicate with the customer; an stainless steel plate can be soldered on internally! As long as the strength is not affected! ! !
This is because the composite panel has not undergone proper heat treatment, and the stress has not been released. Isn’t a composite panel formed by thermal shaping? How can it be processed coldly?
First, drill crack stop holes and consider performing a stress relief process; only then should welding repairs be considered. If it is indeed a stress-related issue, more welding will only lead to further cracking.
