Is it still necessary to take an exam to obtain a certification for the design review of pressure vessels these days?
It’s not mandatory; if the company organizes such activities, it’s better to attend. Even if it’s not for obtaining a certificate, it’s still good to go and learn something, especially for ongoing continuing education, which is very useful for designers working in smaller companies that lack sufficient expertise.

There is quite a lot of knowledge required for working with pressure vessels. Obtaining a relevant certificate and undergoing several years of training are beneficial, not only from a practical standpoint but also for ensuring the safety of work processes and equipment. This approach shows a sense of responsibility toward people’s lives and property.
It’s best to take the exam; otherwise, the company will hold a written test on-site for obtaining or renewing the certificate, and each person has to give a defense presentation that lasts at least an hour – it’s quite troublesome
