I would like to ask my fellow brothers and sisters: what are the typical heat treatment steps in the manufacturing process of rupture discs? Is it solution treatment, or annealing, etc.?

I was wondering if there are any materials related to the normalization, quenching, and tempering processes you mentioned

In the past, not much attention was paid to the heat treatment of rupture discs; I looked up some relevant information today – from the book “Rupture Disc Technology and Applications” by Li Zhiyi, page 107, on the heat treatment of rupture discs. Heat treatment is a very important production process that directly affects the quality of rupture discs. Depending on the purpose of heat treatment, it can be divided into softening heat treatment and stabilization heat treatment. The purpose of softening heat treatment is to modify, through heat treatment, the strength and plastic deformation capacity of the rupture disc material (usually in the form of blanks or semi-finished products), so as to make its burst pressure meet the design requirements or to satisfy the shaping requirements. Stabilization treatment is generally applied to finished rupture discs, with the aim of ensuring that they maintain consistent bursting performance throughout their service life. It is necessary to establish procedural documents for heat treatment (such as operating procedures), and strictly follow the heat treatment processes and systems specified by the designer. Before being put into use or after replacement, heat treatment equipment and related instruments must undergo inspection; they can only be utilized once they meet the relevant regulations. The accuracy of the control and monitoring instruments used must match that of the heating equipment. The main auxiliary materials used for heat treatment (such as nitrogen, argon, ethanol, propanol, vacuum quenching oil, etc.) shall meet the relevant regulatory requirements.

Dalian University of Technology is the institution in China that has conducted the most research on rupture discs. Several of their teachers are engaged in research, and they have factories as well. They say that domestic rupture discs are basically made of austenitic stainless steel, so solid solution treatment is the only option; they are also conducting research on aging treatment at this stage.
