Principle: A thin layer of acetone cannot truly \"dissolve\" the entire piece of foam plastic; in fact, it only dissolves the long chains of polystyrene, allowing the large amount of air contained within the foam to escape. However, propylene is powerless where long-chain crosslinks exist, so residual polystyrene remains at the bottom of the bowl. Fun fact: Something similar happens when 502 glue is dropped on foam plastic. Recorder: Barrett. Risk: Low.
