What causes leakage in the seal of an MVR Roots steam compressor? What should we do? We plan to send it back to the factory for repair; the cost of one repair is 40,000, and it will take about a week. The entire compressor has to be taken apart and sent back to the factory – isn’t that a bit absurd?
Under normal conditions, MVR compressors are not equipped with a backup unit. The mechanical seal is leaking; it’s likely due to a quality issue or a design flaw. If that’s the case, the problem is serious. Returning it to the factory for repair may not solve the issue – it’s necessary to analyze the root causes and improve the design approach.
