For thick-walled containers, the common welding groove is of the X-type. However, there is a problem: if I use 55mm thick steel plate and use an X-type groove, the height would be (55-2)/2 = 26.5. Could I instead use (55-3)/2 = 26, so that the two welding grooves are more evenly distributed? When encountering fillet welds, my height should become 55*2/3, which results in a repeating decimal. In such cases, I need to round it off – should I round up or round down?
