What do these small holes on the nut mean, and what are they for?

I would like to ask the experienced members of this forum: today, a colleague at work asked me what the small hole in this nut is for, and I didn’t know how to answer him in a thorough and reasonable way. I hope the experts on this forum can offer some guidance.
This post was last edited by Paris on 2021-10-12 at 07:14. It is used in conjunction with a hydraulic tensioner; such a tensioner consists of a sleeve that fits over the nut. After stretching the bolt, one manipulates the lever on this sleeve through a notch, thereby tightening the nut. In some cases, the nut itself has a lever on its side, so it is not necessary to use the sleeve – the nut can be tightened directly by manipulating that lever. HG 21573 standard.
The hole used in hydraulic tension nuts is called a pull rod hole; such bolts can be tightened or removed using either hammering or a wrench, as well as hydraulic tension.
