Imagine a series-connected heat exchanger as an equivalent heat exchanger with twice the pipe length and half as many units; since the number of units is halved, wouldn’t the cross-sectional area also be halved, resulting in a flow velocity that is twice as high?
This means the flow cross-sectional area is reduced by half, so the flow velocity increases
