As the title suggests, for an aluminum plate-fin heat exchanger, what is the maximum temperature it can withstand – up to 300°C? Or are there any other plate-fin heat exchangers made of high-temperature resistant materials? Thank you to all the experts :)
Such high temperatures can only be handled with a coil-type heat exchanger. With such large temperature changes, stress problems haven’t been known to have a solution yet. (Not a professional; just mixing in)
Why do plate-fin heat exchangers need to withstand such high temperatures? I don’t know what the application scenario is? Plate-fin exchangers are commonly used at low temperatures. Temperature isn’t a major issue; what matters is whether the temperature difference is large, and also whether there are significant fluctuations in that temperature difference
It is intended for use in a small-scale methanol synthesis process in the laboratory, to preheat the gas mixture (hydrogen, CO, CO2, a small amount of methanol, and water). The maximum temperature inside the heat exchanger is 250–280°C. The temperature difference is large; it is necessary to heat the gas from 90 degrees to 200 degrees.
The plate-fin aluminum brazing process should be able to meet the temperature requirements, similar to those of an automobile radiator. I’m not sure if it can meet your gas requirements. But what kind of heating source are you using? High-temperature oil? In the laboratory, it seems that the electric heating tube method is easier.
I was wondering if aluminum plate-fin assemblies might experience deformation or similar issues at temperatures approaching 300 degrees? No electric heating tubes are used; it is planned to heat the low-temperature feed gas by heat exchange with the high-temperature gas after the reaction.

The thermal deformation resulting from the brazing process in plate-fin heat exchangers does not affect their heat exchange performance; aluminum brazed structures generally perform well at temperatures up to 300 degrees, and a brazing temperature of over 600 degrees is chosen for manufacturing purposes.

Stainless steel plate-fin heat exchangers can be used, but the price will be higher
