Sharing on the two types of high-pressure heat exchangers in hydrogenation units – does everyone know what form they are? What is the difference between these two?
The diagram above shows a diaphragm-sealed heat exchanger, with large bolts used to withstand axial forces； The figure below shows a threaded locking ring heat exchanger, in which the threaded ring is used to bear axial forces

What is this, and why is it being colored?
This is the diaphragm seal plate of the diaphragm-sealed heat exchanger
The sealing diaphragm plate is made of material that appears to be 321. During removal, the sealing welds have to be ground off; to avoid damaging the base metal, the sealing surface is repainted before reinstallation. If any damage occurs, welding repairs must be carried out followed by further grinding. After reinstallation, the diaphragm plate is re-sealed and welded.
