1. The pressure testing ring is a compressive component; it should be designed and calculated by a qualified design institute, which shall also provide the corresponding design drawings. There are no specific requirements regarding this in the regulations for special equipment! 2. There are no component drawings with pressure testing rings in the domestic design drawings!

This post was last edited by Paris on 2022-12-15 at 10:57. The testing ring is part of the pressure testing equipment; it is usually designed and manufactured by the manufacturer itself. So far, I have not seen any design institutes provide relevant drawings or calculation documents for it. The design drawings that include pressure testing fixtures at most provide a hydraulic head with an open pipe end; I’ve really never seen any drawing that includes other types of fixtures. However, the strength calculation of the pressure testing ring is indeed a problem; I heard from the teacher in class that it could be treated as a swivel flange, but after doing some calculations, the resulting thicknesses turned out to be very large. We usually determine the thickness based on experience – it should be as thick as the equipment flange, or if it’s too thick, we reduce it slightly according to experience. I wonder if anyone has a more accurate calculation method; could you share it?

Some design specifications require the design institute to provide estimates from the manufacturing manufacturers; I guess even doing that calculations isn’t necessary
The two companies that manufacture the pressing tools are both producers of heat exchangers.
