Powerless roller conveyors fall within the category of intelligent manufacturing under the concept of Industry 4.0. Powerless roller conveyors are an important solution for intralogistics in intelligent manufacturing; they are very common and essential when we provide intelligent manufacturing solutions to enterprises ; It will be useful for those who are interested in designing comprehensive solutions for Industry 4.0. In this chapter, we introduce \"Design of Conveyors with Idler Rollers\": I. Characteristics of conveyors with idler rollers: 1. These rollers are equipped with specially developed semi-precision bearings, which enable smoother and more flexible rotation of the rollers. 2. Non-powered rollers have a larger clearance than precision ball bearings, giving them better capacity to withstand impact loads compared to other series. 3. Compared to precision ball bearings, power-free rollers generate slightly more operating noise. 4. Powered roller with fully anti-static design. 5. The unpowered roller has low requirements for the operating environment, and can function well in both high and low temperatures. 6. Non-powered drums are not suitable for use as idler rollers in belt conveyors or for friction-based belt transportation. 7. Operating temperature range for non-powered rollers: -20°C to +80°C. II. Parameter configuration of power-free roller conveyors: 1. Bearing assembly for power-free rollers: semi-precision bearings. 2. Main materials of non-powered rollers: steel, galvanized. III. The types of rollers in power-free roller conveyors include spring-pressed type, internal thread type, and flattened-milled type ; When designing, the length of the idler rollers can generally be chosen; in other words, the manufacturer can produce them to the length specified in our design. 1. Spring-pressed drum 2. Internal-threaded drum 3. Flattened-milled drum 4. Materials for non-powered drums: The materials used for the tubes of non-powered drums generally include steel, galvanized steel, and stainless steel ; When designing roller conveyor systems, we must take these material factors into full consideration; different choices are required for various applications and different products, such as environmental humidity, high (low) temperature conditions, corrosive environments, and situations where the friction coefficient during transportation is high. V. Dimensions of the idler drum: The dimensions of an idler drum generally include the pipe diameter, shaft diameter, drum length (body + sprocket), wall thickness of the pipe, and the specifications required for the transmission belt. When designing, we need to take these parameters into full consideration. For example, the length of the drum should be determined based on the size of the items that need to be transported, while the diameter and wall thickness of the drum must be chosen taking into account the weight of the items and the way they are placed. If the products are heavy or the process of placing them involves significant force, then it is better to use drums with a larger diameter and thicker walls, so as to prevent damage to the items. When designing, the length of the idler rollers can be customized, and suppliers usually offer such a service.
