This picture shows the outdoor steel structure of the production unit of a petrochemical refinery. It is a newly built unit and is used as a platform ladder support (round tube). According to the requirements, manual mechanical rust removal reaches St3 level, and the primer and topcoat reach above 150 microns. Check for damaged coatings. There is no primer and the topcoat coating is around 100 microns. The anti-corrosion material is acrylic. Reason for failure: First, the bottom surface treatment did not meet the requirements. ; Second, the primer and topcoat are thin and do not meet the requirements. Because the coating is thin, there is high porosity, lack of primer, and inadequate bottom surface treatment. The superposition of these factors leads to premature failure of the anti-corrosion coating. The main reason for the failure was that our project supervisors failed to perform their duties in quality inspection, which caused the construction workers to fail to follow the construction plan in this regard. Although the construction unit is responsible for the negotiation between the owner and the construction unit, the owner still suffers the loss. For quality control in this area, our supervisors must first check every step of the construction process in place. Whether it is bottom surface treatment or each coat of paint, the entire process must be inspected so that the materials can obtain a good engineering quality. This picture can give us a reminder to the user unit or construction unit to pay attention to construction and construction management.
The quality of the paint is actually very good... but the execution is very important. There is a popular saying in our company that whether the paint is successful or not, surface rust removal accounts for 70%... This is also true from my own experience... If the manufacturer has someone to check and pay attention to the construction... the quality will be good and the service life will be long.
In fact, anti-corrosion construction is a matter of careless management. As the saying goes, "3 points for paint and 7 points for management." Such problems will arise precisely if we do not do a good job in management.
Those who do the project should go and see... Those who manage the site should be concerned... Those who manage the on-site safety should also look at the quality... The three-pronged approach is not afraid of poor performance or fear that no one from above will do it... Anyway, it's good to have a contractor... The quality of the work is all the manufacturer's problem...it's all the maintenance problem... This is the common mentality of on-site personnel/supervisors
