The images below show corrosion of the tube sheet and tube bundle in the heat exchanger used for treating crude and vacuum distillate oil in the petrochemical industry; the operating conditions are such that the fluid flowing through the tubes is crude and vacuum distillate oil, while the fluid flowing outside the tubes is the aforementioned oil； The operating temperature is 288 degrees in the tube side and 260 degrees in the shell side ； The pressure in the tube side is 0.90 MPa, and that in the shell side is 2.23 MPa. The tube bundle material is 10# steel. After being in use for over a year, the tube sheet of this tube bundle developed numerous pitting defects. Regular No. 2 diesel is generally light diesel, while the intermediate oil in Regular No. 2 is recycled oil that does not leave the plant; it is used to adjust product quality and the thermal balance of the entire tower. This type of oil contains a high amount of corrosive substances and falls under the category of naphthenic acid corrosion.
