Our company uses the Topsoe WSA wet process for sulfur recovery to produce sulfuric acid. In the pipeline section from the outlet of the converter to the condenser, sulfuric acid condenses at the bottom; the temperature in this area is 260–280°C, which makes the pipeline highly susceptible to corrosion and leakage. The original piping was made of 316L material; it was later replaced with 904L, but this still did not ensure safe operation over a long period of time. I’m asking if any experts know of materials that can withstand high-temperature concentrated sulfuric acid, or other effective anti-corrosion measures. Thank you here!

If the key flow velocity is not high and the pressure is low, an anti-corrosion coating can be considered; if high pressure is present, Hastelloy B2/B3 can be used
Have you heard of Teiji? For enamel-lined equipment, our company has no issues using sulfuric acid at 170 degrees Celsius; I’m not sure about your equipment, so you should consult someone else regarding that

Our company has now replaced the pipe fittings with glass-lined ones; we’re not sure if this will work. Initially, 316L was used, then 904L was tried, but neither worked. Try using glass now to see the effect. It was recommended by a related organization; they say it’s good.

One of the company’s workshops has 170-degree, 70% sulfuric acid; after investigating manufacturers across the country, only Detech is willing to produce it. The glass with a steel lining was recommended by a sister company; it is used in another application. The temperature is no problem, but I’m not sure about the temperatures related to thermal and cold shock.
