Saturated steam at 0.1 MPA, with a steam flow rate of 1026 kg/h; circulating cooling water is used (inlet temperature 32°C, outlet temperature 38°C). The value of K for the heat exchanger is unknown; please help calculate the required heat exchange area. Thank you!

What type of heat exchanger should be used? The water volume is significant!
If no constraints are imposed when a condition is given, hundreds of solutions can be generated. Moreover, the heat transfer coefficient K is closely related to the design of the heat exchanger; it’s completely meaningless to have only the heat transfer area without any associated information
Let me give some examples of limiting factors: 1. Space constraints: Are there limitations at the site, so that designers can choose an appropriate DNXL? 2. Purpose: Do you want to heat the circulating water to a specific temperature? 3. Vertical? Horizontal? 4. Are there any special requirements regarding the type of heat exchanger? For example, fixed-tube plate type, U-tube type, floating-head type, etc. Of course, it is up to the professional designer to make a comprehensive decision based on the conditions you provide.

Your goal is contradictory to the conditions you have set; since the goal is to cool the steam to a specified temperature, then the temperatures at the steam inlet and outlet must be fixed, as must the volume. The cooling water system provides information on the inlet temperature; as for the amount of cooling water and the outlet temperature, if you don’t specify them, the designer can choose one of these values manually, and the software will then calculate the other value automatically.
