The following is a comparison of the protective effects of coatings on carbon steel water cooler tube bundles versus those without coatings: (1) In water cooler cores without any protection, after 1 year of use, severe corrosion and scaling occur on the inner walls of the tubes, with the scale layer reaching more than 3 mm in thickness. The corrosion and scaling of carbon steel coolers pose a range of difficulties in production and maintenance, while also affecting the economic efficiency of enterprises. a. Corrosion leads to perforation and leakage; a tube bundle can only be used for about 2 years, resulting in a short service life for the equipment. b. Corrosion leakage affects the stability of production and product quality. c. Scaling affects the cooling efficiency of the medium, resulting in a decrease in product yield. d. When scaling is severe, the coolant cannot circulate, preventing the medium from being cooled; therefore, an emergency measure often involves using coolant to spray the cooler shell for cooling. It not only causes corrosion of the casing but also affects the on-site environment of the equipment. When scaling is particularly severe, it can even affect the normal progress of production. e. Severe scaling makes maintenance difficult; manually passing through the areas affected is not only dirty and labor-intensive but also often hinders the progress and quality of maintenance work. (2) The water-cooled core protected by a tube bundle anti-coating showed, after 4 years of use, an intact coating with no fouling or corrosion, indicating excellent performance. Coating protection offers the following benefits: a. It provides good cooling effects, ensures smooth process operation, and improves the economic efficiency of enterprises. b. The inner wall of the tube has mild scaling, which can be removed by using water at a pressure of 6 kg/cm2. Maintenance is time and labor-saving, with high quality. c. Energy savings of over 10% per year are achieved through the use of this technology. d. The indirect economic benefits resulting from reduced downtime for repairs, shorter maintenance times, improved product quality, and higher product yields are also considerable.
