The desulfurization tower has an epoxy furan coating that is less than 1 year old; its thickness is 600 um, and it is severely cracked. Analyze what the reasons are?
Possible reasons are as follows: 1. Material issue: Quality problems with the epoxy furan itself, which may be due to issues in the formulation or production process, leading to the coating cracking easily. 2. Excessively thick coating: A thickness of 600um is quite abnormal; overly thick coatings are prone to developing internal stresses during curing, which can lead to cracking. 3. Improper substrate preparation: The surface treatment of the desulfurization tower did not meet the requirements for coating application; tasks such as cleaning and rust removal were not carried out thoroughly, which affected the adhesion of the coating and led to cracking. 4. Environmental factors: During operation, the desulfurization tower may be exposed to extreme or unsuitable environmental conditions (such as excessively high or low temperatures, high humidity), which affect the stability of the coating. 5. Construction issues: Improper control of temperature and humidity during painting, or insufficient curing time of the coating, can also lead to cracking. .
Judging from the photos, the primer condition seems okay; it’s possible that the adhesion between the primer and the topcoat is insufficient. It’s either that the primer and topcoat are not compatible, or the primer hasn’t dried completely by the time the topcoat is applied
