Coating caking refers to the phenomenon during storage, where solid particles such as pigments and fillers in the coating settle and aggregate into dense, hard lumps that cannot be redispersed through normal mixing. This usually occurs in colored paints, especially those formulated with pigments of higher density (such as red lead, chrome yellow, iron oxide mica, iron red, etc.).
