AkzoNobel’s Resicoat® coating’s corrosion resistance has been proven over 25 years in real-world use 2025-06-04 16:11:17 In a recent 25-year study, AkzoNobel’s Resicoat epoxy powder coating has demonstrated its effectiveness in providing long-term protection for drinking water infrastructure against corrosion. Conducted jointly by the German Water Supply Association of Upper County Bad Bentheim and the GSK industry association, this test involves burying fully operational coated valves and fittings at a typical depth of two meters underground. When these components were excavated, they showed neither stratification nor cracks. Water can flow freely through the system, and no signs of leakage or corrosion have been detected. The study was independently verified by the Material Testing Institute Hannover (MPA Hannover). Independent data confirms material integrity. The research results provide rare and long-term field data, confirming the reliability of epoxy powder coatings in drinking water systems. Yidong Meng, Global Functional Segment Manager for AkzoNobel’s powder coatings, emphasized the importance of this property in extending service life and reducing maintenance costs. He pointed out that epoxy coatings perform better than traditional paints and enamels in terms of corrosion protection, thereby minimizing failures such as leaks and pipe bursts. Lars Walther, General Manager of GSK, described this study as a milestone: “This comprehensive testing provides irrefutable evidence of the value of epoxy powder coatings in ensuring the integrity of drinking water supplies.” ” The high-performance coating for water infrastructure, Resicoat R series, is a thermosetting epoxy powder coating specifically designed for cast iron or steel valves and fittings used in water and gas networks. It can be coated in a single layer using a fluidized bed or electrostatic spraying method, providing strong and durable corrosion protection. More than ten companies participated in this test, setting new benchmarks for the performance of coatings in the water industry. The research findings are expected to boost confidence in the use of powder coatings in critical infrastructure.
