Among conventional commercial stainless steel grades, high-alloy super austenitic stainless steels (such as UNS N08367, 904L, 1.4539, etc.) possess the best corrosion resistance. Ordinary austenitic stainless steels – 316L, 316, 304; these have balanced performance, with 316L, which contains molybdenum, offering better resistance to chlorinated media than the base grades, and are thus suitable for moderate corrosion environments such as in chemical equipment and marine engineering. Ferritic stainless steels – 430, 446; the higher the chromium content, the better the corrosion resistance, with 446 having a resistance level close to that of 316, making it suitable for dry indoor environments and applications requiring oxidation resistance. Martensitic stainless steels – 9Cr18Mo; they have high hardness but relatively weak corrosion resistance, sufficient only for general wear and corrosion resistance requirements, and are ideal for components that need wear resistance but not high corrosion resistance. For special corrosion environments, high-molybdenum super austenitic stainless steels like UNS N08367 are the best choice, as they offer about 20–30°C higher critical pitting temperatures than 316L, reducing the risk of pitting and perforation; Conventional industrial corrosion: 316L stainless steel represents the optimal balance among corrosion resistance, cost, and manufacturing processes; it is also the most widely used corrosion-resistant stainless steel in industrial applications today ; Normal indoor drying environment: 304 stainless steel is sufficient to meet the requirements, offering the best cost-performance ratio.
