What are the differences between the acid gas package in the higher versions of HYSYS and the Amine package in the lower versions? Why is the acid gas package much slower and often gets stuck?
Both calculate the rate of chemical reactions, but Acid Gas calculates the mass transfer rate, whereas Amine does not calculate it. Therefore, the calculation speed for Acid Gas will be even slower, and the structural data of the column in Acid Gas cannot be ignored.

There isn’t a very good way to increase the calculation speed. There are two methods for calculating Acid Gas: efficiency and Advance, and the efficiency method is faster than the Advance method. If you are using the Advance method, you can also speed things up by changing the way the mass transfer rate is calculated; however, if you are using the Efficiency method, there aren’t many ways to improve the calculation speed, as it involves calculating the mass transfer rate—unless you switch to a different computer. Of course, if accuracy is to be sacrificed, there is another possible method in Efficiency mode, but I do not recommend it: you can go to the Efficiency section on the Parameter page and set the efficiencies for CO2 and H2S to fixed values, rather than having them calculated by the software. However, although this method increases speed, it reduces accuracy; I strongly advise against using it.
