Hello everyone, I have a tower equipped with a reboiler, and I would like to use a single-pass thermosyphon reboiler; however, there is no corresponding option in Aspen. Which one should I use? No matter which of the three heat exchangers in Aspen you choose, the separation precision is that of a single plate; it has little to do with the actual design of the heat exchanger. You can just use the first one available in Aspen for now
The impact is still significant, as it relates to issues of heat flow and temperature
The third type (lower left corner) is more common
It comes down to the number of theoretical plates: without a baffle, there are two theoretical plates in the thermosiphonic design, while with a baffle there are three; these are three types I’ve seen, and there should also be a fourth type. I usually choose the first one.
