Dear experts, I am currently designing a heat exchanger for the condensation of hexane in a mixture of hexane and ethylene. I plan to use a vertical double-pass design, with the fluid in question flowing through the tube side while cooling water flows through the shell side. The gas inlets and outlets are located on the upper head, while the outlet for the condensed liquid is situated on the lower head. How should this configuration be handled in the HTRI heat exchanger design process? If the REFLUX recirculation model is used, dual-pass is not supported. If we ignore the condensate outlet on the lower head and allow both gas and liquid to be discharged through the gas outlet on the upper head, will this differ significantly from the actual design? I would greatly appreciate guidance from those with more experience. Thank you very much!

Your goal is actually to separate the ethane from the ethylene-ethane mixture through condensation, and this depends on the temperature and pressure conditions; it’s not just a matter of using a heat exchanger. If the conditions permit, flash evaporation can be considered, or the substance can be condensed directly using a heat exchanger. It depends on your specific conditions.
