When using the Haochen CAD drawing software to create drawings, it is often necessary to add CAD fonts to these drawings. In Haochen CAD, there are two commonly used types of CAD fonts: SHX fonts and TTF fonts from the operating system. Today, I’ll give you a detailed introduction to the features of these two fonts! Features of SHX fonts in CAD: HaoChen CAD and some CAD-compatible specialized fonts. Fonts defined in a vector format are composed of lines and have no filling. You can write SHP files (the source files for SHX, plain text files) according to the defined rules, and then compile them into SHX files in HaoChen CAD. The corresponding font files are divided into three categories: 1. Small fonts: they contain only English letters, numbers, and some symbols, with a total of 256 characters. 2. Large font: Can hold 65,535 characters, generally used to define Asian scripts such as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. 3. Symbolic form: Defines the graphics used for tolerance notations, line styles, etc. (SHAPE). Advantages of the SHX font: it offers high speeds for editing, displaying, and printing. The single-line SimSun font is elegant and suitable for national standard drawing. Disadvantages of SHX fonts: Since CAD-specific fonts are customizable types of fonts, the file names and styles of SHX fonts provided by different companies can vary; the same file may represent a different font, or the basic size proportions of the fonts may also differ. This results in inconsistent sizes between Chinese characters and numerical letters, or when Chinese characters and numerical letters are written separately, the text is prone to misalignment due to font changes. Features of TTF fonts in CAD: TTF fonts are true type fonts supported by the Windows system; they are defined by cubic curves, and their edges remain smooth and clear when enlarged. TTF fonts enjoy wide support and come with uniformly defined specifications. Since Chinese characters, English letters, numbers, and some symbols are all defined in the same file, the font size is uniformly standardized. Disadvantages of TTF fonts: Since TTF fonts are displayed in CAD as composed of boundary lines and internal fills, a large amount of data is displayed. If TTF fonts are used in large quantities, it will lead to a significant increase in memory usage, slowing down both the display and operation speeds. It will also have an impact on printing, as larger print data results in slower printing speeds. Advantages of TTF fonts: The text appears more beautiful and neat. Most drawings use less attractive SHX fonts instead of TTF fonts; this is due not only to performance reasons but also to regulations set by the industry or organization. The choice of font is usually not determined by our personal preferences; if there are regulations, then those fonts must be used. In the absence of such restrictions, and when it’s necessary to exchange drawings with others, it’s also important to consider whether they have the same fonts as you, and whether the text will display properly in their CAD software. SHX fonts and TTF fonts are two different formats for defining fonts, both of which can be used in HaoChen CAD software.
