For CAD designers, working late into the night to draw drawings and spend entire nights on projects is almost the norm. But the most painful part isn’t working frantically on modifying drawings at 3 or 4 in the morning; it’s when, just when you think everything is settled, new problems arise… Have you ever encountered a CAD drawing that you worked all night on, only to find that it wasn’t complete and kept showing dialog boxes indicating missing information? Have you ever encountered a situation where, after opening a CAD drawing sent by a partner, you found that the text portions consisted of various unknown question marks? You must have encountered it! These phenomena occur frequently, especially when involving multiple people and disciplines, as well as cross-departmental/enterprise collaboration. So how can these minor issues be resolved quickly? Today, the editor has summarized several common reasons for incomplete CAD drawing displays and their solutions. Let’s take a look! 1. Missing external reference: An external reference refers to the insertion of a graphic file into the current graphic; the inserted graphic file itself is not added directly to the current graphic file, but only its filename and path are recorded. Once the name is changed or the storage path is altered, external references may be lost. When the CAD drawing is opened at that time, a reference absence will be indicated, with only a series of paths and file names remaining, as shown in the figure below. You just need to find the reference file, place it in the path specified for the reference, or change the reference path. To avoid reference loss, simply bind the reference so that it becomes an actual part of the drawing, or send the reference file along together. 2. Software objects are incompatible with certain CAD drawings: they display properly when opened on other computers, but fail to be displayed in their entirety when opened on your own computer. Why is that? The reason is that these CAD drawings were created using specialized software such as plugins or Tianzheng. While using plugins can improve drawing efficiency, it also introduces compatibility issues. Ordinary CAD software can only recognize basic elements such as lines and arcs, and is unable to interpret professionally formatted objects like walls, doors, and windows. During the installation of Haochen CAD 2020, a “Tianzheng interface” is specifically provided. By checking this interface, you can view architectural objects directly in HaoChen CAD 2020, without the need to install specialized software. Of course, building objects can also be viewed with Haochen Cloud Architecture and Haochen CAD Architecture installed. At the same time, you can also contact the person who sent the drawings and ask them to convert them into a format such as T3, which is a standard CAD object format; it’s also advisable to convert them to an older version of CAD, such as version 2004 or 2007. It should be noted, however, that once the drawing is converted into ordinary CAD objects, parametric editing becomes impossible. (Haochen Cloud Building Toolkit) 3. Proxy graphics are used to display objects from various professional software applications, in order to address issues related to compatibility with such software. Without installing specialized software, using this method, it is possible to view the complete drawings with CAD alone and print them properly. However, the size of the drawing will increase, and the content of such drawings cannot be edited parametrically. In the property bar, after selecting the proxy graphic of a custom object from professional software, it is also possible to see the differences between it and regular CAD elements. So, when you get someone else’s drawings and notice that some specialized components are clearly missing, you can try selecting to display proxy graphics. If the drawing contains proxy graphics, it can be displayed in its entirety. In HaoChen CAD, the specific operation location is on the Open and Save tab of the options panel, as shown in the figure below. After the operation, execute re to regenerate it, and the proxy graphic will be visible.
