In ASPEN PLUS, when the input material flow rate is set at 15 tons per hour, the simulated output is only a little over 4 tons – there’s a huge difference. Why is that?
In ASPEN PLUS, different input and output material flows can be caused by several factors: 1. Separation operations: Processes such as distillation, absorption, and extraction may remove certain components from the main stream, resulting in a decrease in the flow rate of the main stream. 3. Operating conditions: Conditions such as temperature and pressure can affect the separation efficiency or the extent of reaction, resulting in an output flow rate that does not match the input. 4. Data entry errors: There may be mistakes in entering material flow rates or compositions, as well as equipment parameters, which can lead to problems in the simulation results. 5. Simulation convergence issue: ASPEN PLUS reaches convergence through iterative calculations; if the simulation does not converge properly, the results may be inaccurate. To resolve this issue, you need to check the following aspects: - Verify that the input parameters for the material are correct (such as flow rate, composition, temperature, pressure, etc.). - Check whether each unit operation in the flow chart is set correctly, including the reaction degree of the reactor and the separation efficiency of the separation equipment. - Ensure that the heat and mass balance throughout the process are correct. - Check whether all device modules have converged, and adjust the computational parameters to improve the accuracy of the simulation. - Analyze each split and merge point in the flowchart to ensure that no material is “lost” in the model. If the problem persists after the aforementioned checks and adjustments, it may be necessary to conduct a more detailed review of the model settings or consult ASPEN PLUS technical support. .
