Recently, this software, developed by CNOOC Engineering, has been certified by the China Classification Society, thus filling the gap in China’s commercial software for calculating submarine pipeline stability. This is of great significance for accelerating the development of high-level self-reliance in China’s marine oil and gas technology sector and for fostering new forms of productive capacity. Submarine pipelines are the “lifelines” for transporting oil and gas at sea; due to complex marine environmental factors such as seabed topography, ocean currents, and tides, these pipelines are prone to lateral displacement or the formation of “suspended sections,” which can lead to pipeline vibration or even damage, posing risks to offshore oil and gas production. To ensure the reliable operation of pipelines throughout their entire life cycle, the industry typically uses stability analysis software to conduct stability calculations during the pipeline design phase. The software developed this time features comprehensive static and dynamic analysis capabilities for offshore pipelines, including modules such as flow-solid-soil coupling analysis, risk identification in complex terrains, and specialized calculations. It is able to accurately identify potential \"suspension\" risks for pipelines in areas like steep slopes and trenches, and to calculate the forces exerted by fluids on the seabed; the error in static stability analysis can be kept within 5%. This software automates the entire process from parameter input to calculation and analysis to result output. Its one-click report generation feature increases efficiency by approximately twice compared to traditional manual methods. Software for the stability analysis of submarine pipelines involves multiple disciplines such as fluid mechanics, geotechnics and fundamental mechanics, and materials science and engineering. For a long time, this software has relied on imports, resulting in high maintenance costs and poor adaptability, which to some extent has constrained China’s capacity for submarine pipeline construction. In response to this, CNOOC Engineering Design Institute focused on key technical challenges such as the coupling mechanisms between flow, solids, and soil, as well as the handling of complex terrains. By collaborating with domestic research institutions, it adopted a technical approach that combined physical experiments with extensive numerical simulations, and successfully developed this professional software with entirely independent intellectual property rights. Tests have shown that the calculation results produced by this software meet international standard requirements.
