Successful individual testing of “four units and five reactors” at Yueneng Chemical Plant Author/Source: Yueneng Chemical Plant Date: 11-18-2020 Clicks: 3 In recent days, the methanol production complex at Yueneng Chemical Plant has seen successive successes in its commissioning efforts; 5 key units were successfully tested within 4 days, thereby accelerating the progress of the project’s commissioning process. The person in charge of the methanol unit said that the staff working on various systems in this facility operate with a sense of urgency, seizing every favorable moment, utilizing all available resources, and creating every possible opportunity. The units that have been tested include the expander of the air separation unit, the turbine of the propylene compressor in the purification unit, the turbine of the draft fan in the conversion unit, and the turbine of the coal-based syngas compression unit. On November 10, the expander of the air separation unit began to undergo bare cooling after completing a series of tasks including system purging, oil filling, pipeline stress relief, and DCS interlock testing. To accelerate the commissioning of the air separation unit, its commissioning team worked non-stop, overcoming numerous challenges during the testing process. On November 11, the single test of the propylene compressor turbine in the purification unit was successful. This compressor is the core unit of the installation, serving as the source of cooling capacity for the various cryogenic coolers in the low-temperature methanol washing unit. Relevant personnel stated that no carelessness is allowed in the individual tests of the core units; therefore, every aspect, from the satisfactory operation of the oil circulation system and the proper functioning of the medium-pressure steam systems, to the compliance with interlock logic requirements and the successful completion of startup condition tests, must be carefully controlled with precision. On November 12, a single test of the steam turbine for the methane conversion unit’s drum exhaust fan was successful. This facility mobilized all available resources to accelerate the construction schedule day and night; every step, from the transportation of oil to the unit to steam purging, from the calibration of instrument interlocks to the testing of auxiliary equipment, was handled with great care. As a result, numerous difficulties that hindered the unit’s startup were successfully overcome, laying a solid foundation for the smooth commissioning of the facility. On November 13, the turbine of the coal-based syngas compression unit successfully completed its single-run test, and a shutdown test was carried out, marking the successful first commissioning of the turbine in this unit. During the turbine testing phase of this unit, all parties involved worked together closely, working shifts day and night to speed up the process. Less than 48 hours were required, after the steam purging was completed, to restore the flow meters in the steam pipelines, arrange the piping without any stress on the turbine, carry out static testing, and prepare for the actual testing – thus laying a solid foundation for the testing of the coal-based syngas compression unit. The person in charge of the methanol facility said that the individual tests of the 5 core units have greatly boosted the confidence of all employees. Moving forward, the facility will remain focused on its target deadlines, enhancing the sense of responsibility and urgency regarding the commissioning of various units, and striving to complete all tasks to a high standard. At the same time, coordination will be further strengthened to ensure timely communication regarding the commissioning progress of each unit and any issues that arise, with every effort being made to produce qualified methanol products by December 15th.
