It is estimated that ethylene glycol reacted with phthalic anhydride through esterification, releasing reaction heat in the process.
That’s exactly what we do – we use alcohols to react with acids to produce unsaturated resins. But for some reason, when a shipment of ethylene glycol arrives from the manufacturer, our tests show no problems with it; however, once it’s added to the reactor, it causes the mixture to boil, while other types of ethylene glycol don’t cause such a reaction. We’re not sure what the reason is!
