I used phosphorus pentoxide to dry the organic solvent, adding it in small amounts in batches while stirring continuously. The moisture level decreased, but the color of the solution changed from light yellow to yellow and finally to red. What is the reason for this?
It should have turned into pyrophosphate, with a small amount of pyrophosphate dissolving in the solvent. It’s nothing. If your solvent is resistant to phosphorus pentoxide and subsequent reactions are not affected, it can be used normally. You can also use molecular sieve drying.
